JOB HAZARD ANALYSIS
Subsection 7 (2) of the Regulation for Industrial Establishments require a Pre-Start Health and Safety Review for construction, addition or installation of a new apparatus, structure, protective element or process, or modification to an existing apparatus, structure, protective element process.
Job Hazard Analysis is a system that allows business operations to analyze a situation, machine or task and recommend safe operating procedures. Levac Supply Ltd. has the expertise to assist your business in identifying potential hazardous situations and taking the appropriate action. While the system is valuable for existing operations, any new equipment or tasks can benefit greatly by identifying potential problems BEFORE they occur.
There are four basic steps in making a Job Hazard Analysis:
- SELECT the job to be analyzed.
- BREAK the job down into successive steps.
- IDENTIFY hazards and potential accidents.
- DEVELOP ways to eliminate hazards and prevent potential accidents.
The major BENEFITS of Job Hazard Analysis come after its completion. However, benefits are also to be gained in the development work itself. Employees must be taught to RECOGNIZE the hazards associated with each job and learn the necessary precautions.
While making JHA’s, we learn more about the job. Safety attitudes are improved, safety knowledge is increased. Many jobs, such as certain repair jobs, are done infrequently or on an irregular basis. The employees who do them will benefit from pre-job instruction that reminds them of the important hazards and the necessary precautions.
